Felt balls and their many uses

Have you felt ballsy in your crafting lately? If your answer is no then we’ve got the right material for you! Felt balls are a unique crafting material and are extremely versatile. They are available in every colour imaginable, so whether you love bright colours or prefer monotone shades, there’s felt balls out there that are perfect for you!

Here are some fun felt ball crafting projects that are easy to make:

Felt Ball Wall art

Decorating your home with felt ball wall art is unique way of showing off your experimental and daring crafting side. Start off by using basic shapes, such as a cloud or moon. Whether the shape is purchased or handmade, placing different sizes of felt balls can add more depth to the wall art. Adding a neutral fabric, string or wool around the shape will help draw more attention to the felt balls.

Felt Ball Nursery décor

Sometimes less is more. Creating a simple design inside a frame from felt balls is extremely easy but looks great! Something as simple as the Initials of your child can add that little extra personalised element to their room.

Felt Ball Garland

There’s nothing more fun than injecting a bit of colour into your home. So, why not create your own beautiful garland in your favourite colours to suit your space? All you need is a sewing needle and thread (we prefer embroidery floss) and you’re on your way. Garlands are fun additions to your home that can be placed absolutely anywhere. Customise them by adding different sizes of felt balls, shapes or glitter felt balls. Pin them to a wall, hang them over beds, attach them to curtain rails… the possibilities are endless!

Felt Ball Wreath

The materials needed to create a round felt ball wreath are:

  • Felt balls of different sizes
  • 14-inch foam wreath
  • Ribbon (optional - to decorate or make a loop attached to the wreath for hanging on the wall
  • A hot glue gun and hot glue sticks

Getting started is easy; just use the hot glue gun to apply felt balls to your wreath foam. We would suggest that you use larger felt balls to start with then fill any white gaps showing through with smaller ones. We recommend that you lay your foam flat on a table whilst working on it and not to place felt balls on the back of the wreath. This helps the wreath to sit flat against the surface you intend to hang or place on.

Felt Ball Curtain Tie Backs

It’s amazing how much felt ball tie backs can glam up your curtains! They are a nice little touch, which can add a bit of elegance to your curtains. The process is the same as making a felt ball garland (all you need is thread and a sewing needle). We would recommend that you keep the felt balls closely together to prevent the tie back becoming loose, unless you of course prefer the visuals a looser tie back would create. You’re the crafter and it’s your home so make your felt ball tie backs personal to you.

Felt Ball Coaster

Attention tea drinkers! Smaller felt balls are great to make coasters. Again, you just need a needle and thread to create the felt ball coaster of your dreams. Another great way to make a felt ball coaster is by simply gluing them on to an existing flat coaster, check out Inspired by Charm for some inspiration!

Felt Ball Earrings

Creating felt ball earrings is incredibly simple. They look great and make a perfect gift. To make these little gems, you will need a selection of felt balls, a hot glue gun and 10mm earring posts. Smaller felt balls are probably the best for earrings, but if you’re feeling bold then go ahead and use bigger ones! They’re very straightforward to make – just put a small (and we mean small) dot of hot glue on the earring post, press the felt ball onto the post and you’ve got yourself a new pair of felt ball earrings.
